An Iranian semi-official news agency, Tasnim, reported that the public prosecutor of Sistan and Baluchestan Province stated that two armed men attempted to plant a bomb on a road leading to a police station; however, it exploded, resulting in the death of one of them while the other managed to flee. Authorities noted that the second assailant escaped the scene, and they have not identified the group to which they belong. It is known, however, that armed individuals cross Iran's eastern borders to launch attacks on police forces. Sistan and Baluchestan Province is known for high levels of violence, particularly from the Jaish al-Adl group, a Sunni militant organization linked to the Baluch minority residing in Pakistan and Iran. In January, Iran destroyed two bases of the Jaish al-Adl group in Pakistan in response to an attack that killed 11 Iranian security personnel. Pakistan promptly retaliated against the attack by launching strikes on Baluch separatist militants inside Iran a few days later.
