After the great success of Expo 2020, Expo City Dubai continues its mission to inspire the next generation of students, innovators, and changemakers with new and enriching trips filled with workshops and unforgettable lessons as part of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). By filling out a simple form on the Expo Dubai website, schools have seized the opportunity to organize educational and adventurous school trips to learn new cognitive concepts about the climate summit hosted by the city, which is bustling with visitors from around the world, coupled with a vibrant mix of colors, predominantly "green."
Expo has allocated 4 educational programs to coincide with the remarkable event COP28, which include the workshops "Charge Your Energy," Net Zero Carbon, TERRA Science Presentation, and Diving to Find the Treasure. Through these workshops and various activities, schools across the UAE can plan their trips based on timing and the type of content they are looking for.
Zayed Educational Complexes have been proactive in organizing diverse tours for children in regular classes from early morning, emphasizing the importance of educating them about environmental sustainability and climate issues, in addition to taking commemorative photos with climate-related figures visiting the city alongside the COP28 summit.
Reza Ashmawi, the general supervisor of students at Dubai International Academy, stated: “The educational environment in the UAE is continuously focused on expanding students' awareness of the importance of the environment and sustainability concepts through reducing paper use and eliminating plastic packaging in schools while encouraging the use of recycled materials.” He pointed out the establishment of an "Environment Club" at the school to support innovative projects and diverse educational activities that preserve the environment.
Inas Samir, the supervisor of the school trip for Al Taweelah School in Abu Dhabi, mentioned that the school has several initiatives and projects under the title of "sustainability," drip irrigation, and new energy. She highlighted that the school trip to Expo Dubai coinciding with the climate summit is the right and inspiring opportunity for students to closely learn about these terms and the reality of climate action.
Abigail Moratoria, the student supervisor at Citizens School in Dubai, explained that the students enjoy their cultural trip to Expo City Dubai for the third time to connect them with sustainability projects and agriculture while raising awareness about the importance of preserving communities and the environment. She added that there are several workshops and activities, including visits to some local and international pavilions, along with using healthy food options and avoiding plastic.
