The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced in a statement that “the vehicles and equipment belonging to the ministry's contractors are currently engaged in ongoing work to clear and clean rainwater drainage channels on highways and major roads classified within the ministry's jurisdiction, particularly at all identified red zones, coinciding with the arrival of the current weather system 'Hanine' to Lebanon this Wednesday morning.”
The statement continued: “The Ministry of Public Works and Transport reiterates its directives to the contractors' teams, which are continuously reinforced, to persist in their work at the pre-defined locations in a proactive manner, both concurrently and subsequently to any forthcoming storm or low-pressure system approaching Lebanon throughout the current season, with an emphasis on the necessity of maintaining the presence of their vehicles and equipment both day and night at their work sites, remaining fully prepared to address any emergencies that may arise. This all comes as part of the ministry's commitment to public and traffic safety, and to prevent any risks or damages, especially with the forecast of heavy rainfall in short time intervals.”
The statement also noted that "similarly to the coastal areas, the same applies to mountainous regions, as the snowfall began with the current weather system. The snow removal centers deployed across the eastern and western mountain ranges are ready on the roads to start snow clearing and prevent accumulation, thus avoiding the isolation of various areas and towns from each other.”
