The press office of the Council of the European Union announced that "the Union has imposed sanctions on nine North Korean individuals and entities, allegedly for assisting Russia in its conflict with Ukraine." The office noted that "today the Council imposed sanctions on an additional six individuals and three legal entities, due to North Korea's sanction evasion activities which could fund its nuclear and illegal ballistic missile programs, in flagrant violation and disregard of United Nations Security Council resolutions in this area." The office's statement added: "These sanctions were also imposed, taking into account the military support that North Korea has provided for the aggressive war being conducted by Russia against Ukraine." The United States had previously imposed sanctions on two Russian citizens, accusing them of organizing arms supplies from North Korea, in mid-May of this year. The U.S. Department of the Treasury pointed out that "the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the department also imposed sanctions on three companies, which it claims are linked to the mentioned individuals."
