"Through Sorcery": Video Reveals the Strangest Coup Attempt

Security authorities in Chad revealed details of the strangest coup attempt, arresting 80 individuals, including soldiers, who were trying to destabilize the republic's institutions. The Armed Forces General Staff indicated that they foiled an attempt by a group within the "M3M" movement to prepare for rebel activities in the Tokar area, in the ninth district of the capital, N'Djamena, during this month. The General Staff stated that to carry out their operation, the group turned to sorcerers and others, sacrificing chickens, goats, sheep, and even a "man," identified as a store guard in Tokar, who was found beheaded.

The General Staff confirmed that, thanks to the vigilance of the Military Intelligence Directorate, the rebellion was suppressed before it started, and many individuals were arrested, confessing their guilt, and confirming that their leader is Lieutenant Koromta Levana Jilimi. The group was handed over to the judiciary on January 19 of this month to determine their fate.

It is noteworthy that this is the second time individuals have been arrested for attempting to destabilize Chad's institutions. In December 2022, a group of officers and civilians were arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison in May 2023, after which President Mahamat Idriss Déby granted them a pardon that same month.
