The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has provided financial assistance to the Government of Iraq to fund projects for surveying and removing cluster munitions and landmines in several Iraqi governorates, aiming to achieve a safe environment free of landmines to ensure the stability and security of Iraqi citizens and improve their livelihoods while engaging in agriculture and livestock herding. This support also aims to bolster the Iraqi economy.
Iraqi Minister of Environment Nizar Maidi met with a team from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center in Baghdad to receive the financial grant. This support from the center is in response to directives from leadership to contribute to the removal of landmines in the Samawah desert in Al-Muthanna Governorate, with a completion rate of 91%, in addition to several other Iraqi governorates.
Meanwhile, the center's team is monitoring health relief projects in the area to oversee them. The team discussed with the acting Iraqi Minister of Health, Dr. Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, a project to support the Republic of Iraq with liquid oxygen and its requirements. The center has delivered 4,500 oxygen cylinders to the Iraqi Ministry of Health, which in turn distributed them to health facilities across various governorates. Furthermore, discussions were held regarding the delivery of sites and the completion of pre-installation work for oxygen tanks expected to arrive in Iraq next month, as well as facilitating the work of the company authorized by the center. The team also explored resuming the supply of liquid oxygen to Iraqi health facilities from Saudi Arabia, supporting the ministry's efforts to meet the needs of its citizens and provide services to them.
