Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised the mental abilities of his London team's players who staged a remarkable comeback after their late defeat to Portuguese side Porto, crushing Newcastle United in the Premier League last night. Arsenal scored two goals in each half to win 4-1 against their visitors, achieving their sixth consecutive league victory, a record, during an impressive run in which they conceded three times while scoring 25 goals. With this win, Arsenal, in third place, continues to pressure the top teams Liverpool and Manchester City.
Arteta told reporters, "I think we put in a great performance. All credit to the players who had only two and a half days to prepare for the match." The Spanish coach noted that his team excelled in every aspect throughout the match through their "style of executing everything, strength, commitment, determination, and attacking presence in everything we did with the ball."
"The players showed great courage and reaped the rewards," he said. The Arsenal manager expressed immense happiness about his team's reaction, stating, "We showed the strength of our desire to achieve this... I could see our readiness for the match from the moment we were in Porto."
"In sports, things happen for a reason, and you have to learn from it. We need to understand why it happened in order to improve." Arteta added, "We could have scored more goals today... we need to keep doing this and continue to develop and improve."
