Maronite Patriarch Bechara Al-Rai stated that "those who obstruct the election of a president do not want a president because they benefit from his absence," considering that "the situation in the region calls for the presence of a president as well as a solution to the issue of Syrian refugees and the necessity of their safe return." Al-Rai expressed regret over the lack of cooperation from European countries with Lebanon to resolve the refugee issue and facilitate their return to their homeland, as these countries continue to use refugees for political purposes in Syria. In his sermon at Bkerke, Al-Rai remarked that "on the fifty-eighth World Social Media Day, I call for cooperation with this rapid technological advancement, approached with a heart that beats with life and rejects corruption."
