A senior official in the European Union stated that the bloc has approved a set of sanctions against the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) on Friday. He added that the initial measures will target six individuals involved in financing Hamas. The official, who requested to remain anonymous, said, "What we are doing now was decided today, and I believe it will be announced within the next few hours... we have established a sanctions system specific to Hamas. We have included six individuals on the list."
The official further mentioned that the six individuals are from Arab or African countries and are all involved in financing Hamas. The European Council announced on Friday that the six individuals included in the new sanctions regime imposed by the EU on Hamas will be banned from traveling to EU countries and their assets will be frozen.
The statement noted that the initial list of individuals subject to sanctions includes: Sudan-based financier Abdel Basset Hamza Hassan Mohammed Khair, Nabil Shoman and his son Khalid Shoman, major Hamas financier Reda Al-Khamis, high-ranking Hamas leader Mousa Dudin, and Algeria-based financier Ayman Ahmed Al-Dweik.
The statement added, "This new sanctions regime will remain in effect until January 19, 2025. It will undergo continuous review and may be renewed or modified as necessary."
