Eyewitnesses captured a video of the imam's plea, which circulated on social media, with comments indicating that the attack was carried out by individuals from families living in the neighborhood.
Local media reported that attackers entered the mosque armed with knives, confirming that two of them were arrested by security forces. Social media users demanded that security forces punish the perpetrators to prevent future incidents, following the spread of the imam's video plea. It is noteworthy that Sheikh Abdul Qadir al-Kilani Mosque holds great significance for Iraqis due to its historical, religious, and scholarly importance. The mosque was built during the Abbasid era and houses an important scientific library that attracts many visitors.
