The caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati discussed matters concerning the "Lebanese University" in a meeting held at the Grand Serail today, Tuesday, with the Minister of Education and Higher Education Abbas Halabi, the President of the University Bassam Badran, and a delegation from the Association of Faculty Members at the Lebanese University headed by Antoine Charbel.
After the meeting, Minister Halabi stated: "We discussed the challenges of starting the academic year at the Lebanese University to ensure a normal academic year that provides education for the students of the Lebanese University and the minimum acceptable conditions for its faculty, staff, and contractors."
Mikati also welcomed the Moroccan Ambassador to Lebanon, Mohamed Akhrif, where they reviewed the bilateral relations between the two countries. During the meeting, Ambassador Akhrif thanked the Prime Minister for "Lebanon's solidarity with Morocco during the crisis caused by the devastating earthquake that struck the Greater Atlas region, resulting in thousands of casualties." He confirmed that Morocco appreciates Lebanon's readiness to support relief efforts, which will be utilized if needed.
Additionally, the Prime Minister received a farewell visit from the Argentine Ambassador to Lebanon, Mauricio Albis.
Mikati also met with Rola Dashti, the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), where they discussed collaboration between Lebanon and the international organization.
Lastly, President Mikati welcomed a delegation representing the Patriarch of Antioch and all the East for the Greek Orthodox, John X, which included the head of the Mar Elias Deir Shouya Patriarchal Monastery, Bishop Costantin Kial, the President of Balamand University, Dr. Elias Al-Waraq, the Patriarchal Advisor Consul Mark Gharib, and Archimandrite Aftimos Faqash. The delegation extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to attend a global scientific conference to be held on October 16 at Balamand University.
