Argentinian football player Lionel Messi has won a new award with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer on Thursday. The American Soccer League announced in an official statement that Messi has been named the Best Player of the competition for the month of April, following his participation in four league matches during the month, totaling 315 minutes.
Messi contributed to 10 goals, scoring 6 and assisting 4, averaging a goal every 31.5 minutes. In Inter Miami's last match, the team won 4-1 against New England Revolution, during which Messi scored two goals. This helped Inter Miami secure the top position in the Eastern Conference standings, gathering 21 points, leading by 3 points over the closest competitor.
It is noted that the Player of the Month award is determined by a vote from a committee of American media members. Last month, Messi also received the Player of the Week award in Major League Soccer after leading his team to a 3-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City.
