A statement was issued by Fadi Martinos, President of the Jbeil Municipalities Union, regarding the previous circulars related to Syrian refugees and all foreign workers. In his effort to organize foreign labor from all nationalities, specifically addressing the random and significant presence of Syrian refugees, he aims to maintain public safety and order. This includes managing residence, commercial activities, and movement within each municipality to prevent any potential friction between foreign workers and local Lebanese residents, as has occurred multiple times in various regions.
He emphasized the responsibilities of municipalities and local officials in protecting their citizens, ensuring their livelihoods and safety in accordance with applicable laws. The President requested all municipalities to strictly enforce the laws, report on Syrian and foreign workers, and implement the decision of Minister of Interior Bassam Mawlawi, which requires thorough documentation of each worker's identity, family details, place of residence, and work activities. He also called on landlords of foreign workers to comply with rental laws by officially declaring tenants and paying the necessary fees.
He added that this measure aims to ensure the public safety of citizens, foreign workers, and Syrian refugees by regulating housing, work, and movement, as well as assisting security forces by providing accurate information to track down anyone undermining security and stability or infringing on the property and freedoms of others. He expressed full confidence in the mayors and members of municipal councils in the Jbeil area to cooperate for the benefit of the Jbeil community and the national interest.
