Nigerian President: I Will Leave a Legacy of Trustworthy and Honest Elections

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari defended his record on the economy and the results of the disputed presidential elections on Sunday, a day before handing over power to his successor Bola Tinubu. He noted that he is leaving behind "a legacy of trustworthy and honest elections." Buhari mentioned that the elections held in February helped cement democracy in Africa's most populous country and that Tinubu, who ran as the candidate from the ruling party, was the best in the race. He added, "I will leave behind an electoral process that ensures the credibility of vote counting and results, integrity and transparency of elections, and minimizes the influence of money in politics as much as possible."
