The Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan, called on imams and mosque preachers in Lebanon to dedicate the Friday sermon tomorrow to the Beirut port explosion, which resulted in hundreds of dead and injured. He requested that the recitation of takbirs in mosques coincide with the time of the explosion at 6:10 PM to mark the third anniversary of the explosion.
Mufti Deryan urged the relevant officials in the state to "hasten the unveiling of the reasons behind this heinous crime, which affected all Lebanese of various sects and denominations, to know the truth and achieve justice." He asked in a statement, "Do not the families of the victims, the injured, and the affected by the Beirut port explosion deserve a cabinet session at the Grand Serail to inform public opinion of the latest findings of judicial investigations and security data in this regard, to relieve all Lebanese?"
He added, "The case of the Beirut port explosion is not forgotten and will not be left behind. We will continue to demand and support this humanitarian issue, to know the underlying reasons behind this monstrous act, which destroyed the capital, Beirut, that embraces all Lebanese."
Mufti Deryan pointed out that "the crime that was used in the port explosion is a terrorist act against humanity, targeting all Lebanese and causing a national disaster that shook the world, not just Lebanon. The judiciary in Lebanon is still slow in revealing the horrific crime, and it should expedite its investigations to implement justice, imposing the harshest penalties and retribution on those proven guilty and responsible for this heinous crime. In this context, we can only say to the families of the victims and the injured, be patient; indeed, God is with the patient."
