Screaming and Chaos During Israeli Government Meeting

An Israeli minister revealed that a government meeting held yesterday, Thursday, was marked by shouting and chaos due to an investigation being conducted by the Israeli army. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority "Kan" reported that several ministers attacked the representatives of the Israeli army who were present at the meeting, including Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi.

It was noted that Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, Transportation Minister Miri Regev, and Regional Cooperation Minister David Amsalem expressed their anger that the Israeli army was planning to involve officials who supported the disengagement from the Gaza Strip in 2005 in the investigation regarding the events leading up to the October 7 attack.

The minister in the war government of Benny Gantz shouted at the ministers who attacked the chief of staff, saying: "This is a professional investigation; what does it have to do with disengagement? The chief of staff is conducting an investigation into what happened now to serve war objectives and our ability to prepare for conflict in the north. This is not a national investigation."

One minister told "Kan" that the explosive discussion was humiliating. They attacked the army, and some senior members of the defense establishment were left in the middle. Another minister added: "We learned they could hear the ministers screaming from outside the meeting room. What happened there is regrettable and shameful. They can criticize the army, but they personally attacked the chief of staff."

He believed that "the government needs to reconsider whether the currently formed security cabinet is fit to make decisions about our defense policies. I do not think so." Ultimately, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ended the meeting, telling Halevi: "Sometimes you need to listen to the ministers."

Halevi had begun appointing a team to investigate the events leading to Hamas's sudden attack on October 7. The "Jerusalem Post" expected that the investigation team would be headed by former Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz, joined by former Military Intelligence Chief Aharon Zeevi Farkash and former Southern Command Chief Sami Turjeman.
