In a distressing scene reminiscent of earthquake days, a three-story residential building collapsed in Istanbul on Sunday morning. As footage of the devastated site circulated on social media, local authorities announced the dispatch of a large number of firefighting, police, and health teams to the location.
The incident occurred in the Küçükçekmece district around 8:40 AM local time (5:40 AM GMT), and teams from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority were directed to the scene immediately after receiving the report. Search and rescue operations began promptly after reports of people trapped under the rubble. Rescuers have managed to pull a few individuals from the debris so far, and emergency services are working diligently at the site. The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined.
Videos and images shared on social media showed the wreckage at the destroyed location, with people rushing about in chaos. Authorities have also stated that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
