Dubai Police Advise Drivers to Exercise Caution in Unusual Weather Conditions

The Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, Major General Saif Mahir Al Mazroui, has urged drivers to be cautious on the roads during the unusual weather conditions currently being experienced in Dubai. In a press statement, he emphasized the need for drivers to follow all precautionary measures, fully comply with traffic laws and regulations, reduce speeds, maintain a safe distance in these conditions, avoid distractions from the road, and refrain from venturing into valleys for photography or chasing rain due to the significant risks involved.

He highlighted the importance of reducing speeds on external roads and paying attention to the safety of all vehicle components, including the engine, tires, brakes, windshield wipers, and lights. He also stressed the necessity of avoiding sudden stops without signaling, ensuring there is enough distance behind the vehicle in front, using seat belts, avoiding phone use for photography or distractions, and sticking to lanes unless absolutely necessary.

Moreover, he emphasized the need for caution at turns, in low areas, and on open roads where water may accumulate. He urged drivers to use warning signals in case of vehicle breakdowns and to move their vehicles off the road to avoid obstructing traffic or facing accidents. He pointed out the importance of using hazard lights solely in the event of an emergency stop, warning that using these lights while driving would deprive the driver of their use during critical emergencies and while indicating direction.

Drivers were also advised to use windshield wipers while on the road to prevent water accumulation that obscures visibility and to clear any fog accumulating on vehicle windows.

Major General Al Mazroui warned against reckless driving, stunts, or drifting on the roads, clarifying that the law penalizes those who drive in a manner that endangers themselves or others, harms public or private property, or creates risks to safety. Offenders will have their vehicles impounded and may be referred to the judiciary for legal action, with no leniency shown towards violators of these dangerous offenses.
