The Public Prosecution in Saudi Arabia ordered the arrest of a person who shot an animal after a video went viral on social media. According to a statement from the Public Prosecution: "Based on what was observed by the Prosecution Monitoring Center regarding the spread of content on social media 'a video clip,' showing a person shooting an animal, an order was issued for his arrest and referral for investigation, and notification of the relevant authority to verify the physical and psychological safety of the child present at the crime scene," according to the official Saudi channel "Al-Ikhbariya."
The Public Prosecution emphasized, "Any behavior that violates public safety regulations, the use of weapons in contravention of the law, harming children by exposing them to criminal scenes, or animal cruelty is prohibited." They warned that "they will not hesitate to initiate severe legal action against anyone who commits any of these offenses and refer them to the competent court."
The circulated video showed a man holding a gun alongside a child before shooting a dog on the side of the road. Saudis reported that "the incident took place in the Jizan region in southwestern Saudi Arabia."
Following the order from the Public Prosecution, the Jazan police arrested a citizen who shot an animal.
