The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division has released a chart of the 16 types of cars most at risk of theft in 2023. It shows that modern cars (especially Kia and Hyundai models) are the most susceptible to theft because they are not equipped by the manufacturer with an IMMOBILIZER system, which prevents the engine from starting without the key, making them similar to older cars in terms of theft vulnerability.
In this context, the directorate warned car owners to take continuous precautions to minimize the risk of their vehicles being stolen, including the following measures:
- Installing devices in a professional manner that are difficult for thieves to access, such as an IMMOBILIZER, GPS, MINI GPS, a secret key to prevent the engine from starting, or using a steering wheel lock.
- It is preferred to park the car in locked areas or in well-lit locations equipped with surveillance cameras.
As of March 31, 2023, the number of stolen vehicles reached 314, and in this context, internal security forces arrested 50 individuals. The security forces circulate a chart of the car types that are most prone to theft during this year up to March 31, 2023, highlighting some protective measures to limit these crimes.
