Member of the Lebanese Kataeb Party bloc, MP Nadim Gemayel, addressed the Cabinet with a request for information regarding the financial allocations and aid provided by the South Council since October 7, 2023. This was based on the Law on the Right to Access Information, following the Cabinet's approval of the South Council's proposal to provide assistance for certain material and physical damages caused by Israeli attacks and to amend the value of this assistance.
In his letter to Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Gemayel requested a detailed inventory of all aid and cash grants provided and planned to be provided, in addition to a list of what has been received and will be received, the number of individuals who have received it, and those eligible for it, specifying their areas. He also sought clarification on the criteria and conditions used to identify individuals, the definition of martyrs, whether they are fighters or civilians, and the sources and financial mechanisms the government will follow to secure the required funds in light of the current deteriorating situation.
