An American family was diagnosed with a rare parasitic disease that led to six members being hospitalized after they consumed bear meat kebabs. The family in South Dakota experienced severe fever, intense muscle pain, and swelling around the eyes. It is believed that the bear carried a parasitic disease typically caused by larvae of the Trichinella species.
A week later, a 29-year-old member of the family began displaying multiple symptoms consistent with Trichinosis. He was hospitalized twice within a few days, complaining of fever, severe muscle pain, and swelling around his eyes. Subsequent tests revealed that he was carrying antibodies for Trichinosis. Five other family members also developed similar symptoms, with some experiencing stomach pains and diarrhea. Interestingly, two other family members did not show any symptoms.
