British authorities announced today, Monday, that two men have been charged with "spying" for China under the Official Secrets Act. Christopher Berry (32) from Whitney in Oxfordshire, and Christopher Cash (29) from Whitechapel in London, are accused of providing harmful information to a foreign state. They have been released on bail to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday, April 26. Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Counter Terrorism Command, stated: "This has been a very complex investigation into very serious allegations," noting, "we have worked closely with the Crown Prosecution as our inquiries progressed, which led to the charging of the two men today." He added, "We recognize that there is a degree of public and media interest in this case, but we ask everyone to refrain from any further comment or speculation, so that the criminal justice process can now take its course."
