Union of Bakeries: The Open Strike is Starting to Have Negative Effects!

The unions of bakeries and ovens stated that "there is no solution to the problem of the open strike, except by rectifying the situation of public sector employees and approving their rights as soon as possible, to avoid further financial losses for the state and stakeholders, including bakeries." They issued the following statement today: "The open strike carried out by employees of official administrations and ministries is beginning to negatively impact the economic cycle in the country amid the difficult circumstances we are facing. This action is justified, given the injustice suffered by public sector workers regarding the salaries and wages they receive, which are insufficient to meet even their basic daily needs. The repercussions of this strike have emerged in the halt of work in essential ministries that manage the interests of bakeries and provide food materials from abroad on one hand, and facilitate their exit from the Port of Beirut on the other, which may impose significant financial burdens on importers and traders that will ultimately be borne by the Lebanese consumer."

The unions of bakeries and ovens believe that "there is no solution to this problem except by rectifying the situation of public sector employees and recognizing their rights as soon as possible to prevent further financial losses for the state and stakeholders, including bakeries." They urge the government and the parliament to act swiftly to secure the rights of employees so they can perform their duties effectively and to avoid neglecting their demands, as they are the essential backbone of state administrations in facilitating the role of the private sector. The unions affirmed their full support for the employees' actions and demands and stressed the need for a quick resolution in the interest of the public good for both the state and the private sector.
