UEFA announced today, Friday, the release of the official song for the UEFA European Championship (Euro 2024), which will take place in Germany between June and July 2024. The official song will be performed by the Italian trio Meduza, the Grammy-nominated pop band OneRepublic, and German singer-songwriter Leony.
The song, titled "FIRE," was written by American singer and producer Ryan Tedder, lead singer of OneRepublic, and produced by the trio Meduza. According to UEFA, the song embodies "the beloved artistic production of the Italian group, the captivating soundscapes of OneRepublic, and Leony's expertise in pop music in a track that captures the excitement and spirit of both football fans and music lovers."
Meanwhile, the highest body of European football stated that "the song will be performed live by the three groups during the closing ceremony, before the final of the Euro 2024 Championship."
The tournament director and former captain of the German national team, Philipp Lahm, remarked to UEFA that "football and music have the power to unite people," and that "in the Euro 2024 Championship, we want to celebrate diversity in Europe and enhance a sense of unity."
For their part, the Meduza group expressed their excitement about "blending our passion for the beautiful game with our music for Euro 2024." Ryan Tedder, the songwriter, mentioned, "We write for football and music fans around the world, hoping to inspire and unite us as we count down to Euro 2024." Leony added, "I am thrilled that FIRE has come to light... I grew up watching the tournament with my family, and with this edition taking place in my home country Germany, participating in the official song of the tournament is a dream come true."
