World number one Novak Djokovic received medical attention after a water bottle hit him in the head following his victory over French player Corentin Moutet in the second round of the Italian Open on Friday. The Serbian player was signing autographs after his easy win of 6-3, 6-1 when the bottle struck his head, causing him to hold his head and fall to his knees, remaining in that position for several seconds while staff rushed to assist him and help him leave the court.
The tournament organizers denied any cause for concern regarding his condition. The tournament stated on social media, "Upon leaving the main court after his match, Novak Djokovic was struck on the head by a water bottle while signing autographs for fans. He underwent appropriate medical procedures and has already left the venue to return to his hotel."
Djokovic wrote on social media platform X, "Thank you for the messages expressing concern for my condition. It was just an accident and I’m fine at the hotel with a bag of ice on it. See you all on Sunday." Djokovic's next match will be against Chilean Alejandro Tabilo.
