Brazilian Antony scored one goal and assisted another as Manchester United won 2-0 against Nottingham Forest, strengthening their position in the top four of the Premier League on Sunday. Antony scored the first goal after 32 minutes, then cut in from the right side and assisted teammate defender Diogo Dalot, who scored from close range in the 76th minute.
United secured third place with 59 points from 30 matches, three points clear of Newcastle United, who also played 30 matches and dropped to fourth. United is six points ahead of fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur, who have played one match more, in a fierce battle to remain in the top four for qualification to next season's Champions League.
Forest's points total, who have not won any of their last ten league matches, stands at 27 from 31 matches, placing them 18th, just below the safety zone on goal difference.
Arsenal leads the league with 74 points from 31 matches, four points ahead of the defending champions Manchester City, who have a match in hand.
Antony scored the first goal for United after following up on a shot from teammate Antony Martial, which was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Keylor Navas. Dalot scored his first-ever goal in the Premier League, securing the win for United after following Antony's pass.
United is missing forward Marcus Rashford and defender Raphael Varane for several weeks, while defender Lisandro Martinez will be out for the rest of the season due to a foot injury. Midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who scored two goals in the 2-2 draw against Sevilla in the quarter-finals of the Europa League last Thursday, was injured during the warm-up before today’s match against Forest.
