The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants welcomed, on Saturday, "the statements of U.S. President Joe Biden regarding the necessity to stop the war in Gaza, Israel's withdrawal from the sector, and the exchange of prisoners." It views these statements as an opportunity and window to implement the two-state solution based on relevant international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative issued at the Beirut Summit in 2002. The ministry also encouraged all peace initiatives based on the aforementioned elements.
In a statement, the ministry emphasized "the importance of including the comprehensive implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 in all initiatives related to restoring calm to the southern Lebanese borders." The Lebanese have suffered greatly and have paid high prices due to the application of half-solutions instead of seeking permanent solutions that ensure regional peace and security. Moreover, it is time for Israel to withdraw from the remaining occupied Lebanese territories, including the Shebaa Farms and Kfarshouba Hills, and to retreat to the internationally recognized Lebanese borders, while halting its land, sea, and air violations in order to reach a stage of sustainable stability in southern Lebanon.
