Public Works and Transport Minister in the caretaker government, Ali Hamieh, affirmed today, Wednesday, that Lebanon, as a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), regards it as the main reference for all standards and measures it implements regarding the safety and security of air navigation in its airspace. During a meeting with the President of ICAO and its Secretary-General, he added that enhancing and developing cooperation with the organization, especially in the past two years, aligns with Lebanon's continuous commitment to consider the standards it establishes as adopted criteria in its civil aviation sector.
Hamieh addressed a critically serious issue affecting the safety and security of air navigation over Lebanon and at the airport, concerning the ongoing and continuous interference by the Israeli military, which poses a significant threat to the safety and security of air navigation and to all departing and arriving passengers in Lebanon. He stated that they seize the opportunity of today's meeting with the Secretary-General and the President of the organization to raise awareness about the dangers of this situation. Hamieh emphasized the necessity of keeping Lebanese airspace and the region safe and free from the imminent dangers arising from this issue.
Minister Hamieh participated in the inaugural meeting held by ICAO in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, themed "Leveraging the Potential of the Aviation Sector: Strategies for Safe Skies and a Sustainable Future," aimed at enhancing Lebanon's benefits from the capabilities of the international aviation sector and ensuring continued adherence to international standards related to public safety and air navigation in the airspace of Rafik Hariri International Airport - Beirut.
