Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that international institutions and organizations have "failed again in the Gaza Strip, and we must admit that the Islamic world has not succeeded in this test very well." In a speech during the "Iftar with Old Friends" event in Istanbul, Erdoğan added that "the hypocrisy of Western countries that support Israel with ammunition to enable it to commit its massacres has turned Gaza into the largest graveyard for children and women in the world." He explained that "Turkey defends its brothers in Gaza with all its capabilities, and lies and attempts at deception cannot hide this fact." He pointed out that "Israel is not alone; it is part of an equation consisting of dozens of supporters standing behind it." He continued: "We are astonished by the minds and consciences of those who believe that Israel is merely a country on its own; the truth is that Israel also represents a completely different equation with the United States, Britain, Germany, France, and dozens of other supporters behind it." The Turkish president confirmed that "Muslims welcomed this year's holy month of Ramadan with a heavy heart due to what is happening in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories." The war in the Gaza Strip has entered its 164th day amid ongoing Israeli bombardment and a humanitarian disaster reaching the level of famine, with mediators unable to establish a ceasefire even for the month of Ramadan.
