Kuwaiti authorities have begun a campaign to update street names in the country, implementing a radical measure of replacing the names of individuals on roads with numbering. According to the newspaper "Al-Majlis," the Ministry of Public Works has started replacing the names of individuals on roads, streets, and squares. The newspaper pointed out that the ministry's approach focuses on replacing street names and "moving towards numbering them," meaning assigning numbers instead of personal names. It noted that the naming of some streets will be limited to "sultans, kings, rulers, princes, and heads of state." The ministry stated that naming some other streets after countries and capitals will be done reciprocally. This process will help simplify movement through global positioning systems (GPS), especially for foreigners who do not know Arabic. The Kuwaiti Council of Ministers tasked the Minister of Public Works and the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs with taking the necessary actions to replace street and square names and move towards numbering them in its meeting on Monday.
