Russian astronaut Oleg Kononenko announced that astronauts aboard the International Space Station conducted studies as part of the Matryoshka-R experiment to measure the effects of radiation on human internal organs. Kononenko stated, "To study the biological effects of radiation, it is not enough to measure the radiation levels in different sections of the space station; it is essential to understand the distribution of radiation doses within an astronaut's body, and within so-called critical organs such as the skin, digestive system, central nervous system, lens of the eye, and others." He added, "In this experiment, specific devices and tissues that simulate the tissues protecting the organs in the human body were used, where different radiation sensors were placed inside, and measurements were taken both inside and outside the space station under various conditions." Kononenko pointed out that the data obtained from the "Matryoshka-R" experiment helps assess the levels of radiation that astronauts are exposed to in space.
