Death Grieves Legendary Manchester United Coach Ferguson

Flags were flown at half-mast at Old Trafford on Friday following the death of the legendary Manchester United coach, Scottish Alex Ferguson's wife. The English club announced in a statement on behalf of the Ferguson family that Cathy Ferguson passed away at the age of 84. The club described her as "a pillar of strength for Sir Alex throughout his professional life."

"Everyone at Manchester United sends our heartfelt condolences to Sir Alex Ferguson and his family on the passing of Lady Cathy. Lady Cathy was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a tower of strength for Sir Alex throughout his career." — Manchester United (@ManUtd) October 6, 2023.

Flags were lowered at Old Trafford in honor of Cathy, and Manchester United players will wear black armbands in the Premier League match against Brentford this coming Saturday. The United women's team will do the same in their match against Arsenal later today. Ferguson resigned from his position at United in 2013 after more than 26 years, stating that spending more time with Cathy and his family was one of the main reasons for his decision.
