Security Forces: Arrest of Syrians Engaged in Counterfeit Currency Promotion

The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division issued the following statement: "As part of the ongoing monitoring conducted by the specialized units within the Internal Security Forces, information was gathered by the Information Branch regarding two unidentified individuals promoting counterfeit currency within the areas of Choueifat and Aramoun. Consequently, and as a result of investigations and inquiries, the branch identified them as: E. E. (born in 2003, Syrian) and A. S. (born in 1969, Syrian), who has a criminal record for forgery.

On 18-5-2024, patrols from the branch managed to arrest the first individual in the act, while he was attempting to exchange a counterfeit fifty-dollar bill inside a shop in Duhat Aramoun. Simultaneously, the second individual was arrested at a junction in Aramoun. Upon searching them, an amount of 150 counterfeit US dollars, two mobile phones, and a sum of Lebanese currency were seized. During the investigation, they confessed to the charges against them. Legal measures were taken against them, and they were referred along with the seized items to the relevant authorities, based on the instructions of the competent judiciary."
