Reports have revealed that Spanish club Real Madrid and English club Liverpool will reduce the number of tickets available for visiting fans during their upcoming matches in the UEFA Champions League. In the Round of 16, the European champions will travel to face Liverpool at Anfield on February 21, and the return match will be held in Madrid on March 15.
However, due to maintenance work at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the Royal Club has decided to allocate only 1,400 tickets for Liverpool fans, prompting the English club to set a similar number for Real Madrid supporters at Anfield, according to Spanish sports newspaper "AS."
These figures mean that the proportion of seats allocated to away fans in both matches will be about 2.5%, instead of the usual percentages ranging from 5% to 10%. "AS" indicated that Real Madrid intends to conduct a lottery for distributing tickets to its fans wishing to support the team at Anfield, amid expectations of a high turnout for the match.
The draw for the Round of 16 has pitted the two giants against each other in a fiery showdown, a repeat of last season's final, which ended with Real Madrid winning 1-0.
