Scottish Prime Minister Hamza Yousaf announced on Monday that his wife’s parents have been trapped in Gaza since the attack launched by Hamas on Israel on Saturday. Yousaf, who is married to Palestinian Nadia Nakhla, stated that her parents, who live in Dundee in northeastern Scotland, were visiting family in Gaza. Yousaf told reporters, "They were on a visit in Gaza, and I fear they are currently trapped." Yousaf, who became the first Muslim head of government in Western Europe in March, noted that Israeli authorities have asked his in-laws to leave but have not guaranteed them safe passage. He expressed, "We are frankly, night after night, day after day, in a situation where we do not know if my in-laws will be alive until the next morning." He added, "We cannot sleep... we are constantly monitoring our phones." Yousaf emphasized that "innocent civilians are paying the price" on both sides.
