Spanish radio station "Radio Marca" reported that Real Madrid's management has settled on a preferred candidate to succeed Italian Carlo Ancelotti, the current coach of the royal team, starting from the upcoming season. According to "Radio Marca," Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, the manager of German club Bayer Leverkusen, has become the favored choice to replace Carlo Ancelotti on the sidelines of Real Madrid from next season.
Ancelotti's contract with Real Madrid ends at the conclusion of the current season, and the veteran Italian coach has been strongly linked with a move to coach the Brazilian national team. The Spanish radio station noted that Real Madrid's management is not worried about Alonso's lack of extensive experience in coaching.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, a transfer market expert, shared previous comments from Ancelotti about Xabi Alonso on his X platform account: "I have coached Xabi, and he’s doing a great job at Bayer. He understands the game well; that’s why he’s a very good coach. I wish Xabi Alonso, Raul, and Alvaro Arbeloa to become Real Madrid's managers one day. I love all of them."
Xabi Alonso, 41, spent six seasons at the "Santiago Bernabéu" as a player, winning the Spanish league title in 2012 and the Champions League in 2014. "Radio Marca" revealed that Alonso caught the attention of Tottenham before the latter contracted with Ange Postecoglou, but the Spanish coach committed to staying with Bayer Leverkusen and signed a three-year contract extension.
