Minister of Public Works and Transport in the caretaker government, Ali Hamiyeh, continues his visit to Britain and participation in the "General Assembly" of the International Maritime Organization taking place in London. Today, he met with a delegation from the Turkish Ministry, led by Deputy Minister of Transport Durmuş Unvar, along with the Director General for EU Affairs and Foreign Relations, Burak Aykal.
The discussions focused on enhancing the growth of Lebanese-Turkish relations in the transportation sector, especially in maritime and air transport. They also explored ways to expand cooperation with Turkey in this sector, particularly concerning railways, and the implications on port activity and the ports sector in general.
Hamiyeh highlighted that "the geographical location of both Lebanon and Turkey, along with the friendships between the two countries, opens doors for cooperation to strengthen and enhance maritime and air transport connections between them, catering to all services between both sides." Additionally, the conversation addressed the "potential to benefit from Turkish expertise in the railway sector and the possibility of collaborating to revive this sector in Lebanon, considering its positive impact on enhancing port activity in Lebanese ports and stimulating it in relation to Turkish ports."
To further pursue these topics, the Lebanese and Turkish sides agreed to form a specialized technical committee from both ministries, with plans for the ministers to reconvene in the coming months to discuss the procedures to be established by the mentioned committee and work towards their implementation.
