The United Nations condemned the implementation of public and collective whipping punishments against dozens of individuals in Afghanistan, urging the Taliban authorities to end this practice. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported that about 63 people were publicly whipped in Sari Pul Province on Tuesday. The mission stated in a message posted on the "X" platform: "UNAMA reiterates its condemnation of corporal punishment and calls for respect for international human rights obligations." Since their return to power in August 2021, the Taliban authorities have reintroduced an extreme interpretation of Islamic law.
