The Arab League has announced that the Kingdom of Bahrain will host the 54th session of the Arab Ministers of Information Council on May 29. Preparations will include the 101st session of the Permanent Arab Media Committee and the 19th session of the Executive Office on May 27 and 28, respectively, with the attendance of Arab media ministers and heads of media organizations and federations with observer status at the Council of Arab Ministers of Information. In a statement issued on Thursday, the Arab League indicated that it will participate with a delegation headed by the Assistant Secretary-General for the Media and Communication Sector, Ahmed Rashid Khattabi.
Khattabi noted that the Permanent Arab Media Committee will study the draft agenda based on the items listed and the constructive contributions of member states and relevant partners to submit its recommendations to the Executive Office in preparation for their adoption by the Council. He pointed out that this session will be characterized by a review of the results of monitoring the implementation of decisions from the 53rd session of the Council in Rabat and the recommendations from the 18th session of the Executive Office in Tripoli, in light of the results of preparatory meetings of the teams and committees emanating from the Permanent Committee.
He added that the committee will discuss continued media support for the Palestinian cause and monitor the Arab media action plan abroad, including the adoption of the statute for the observatory and the integrated platform, the Arab Institute for Peace Journalism, and the recommendations of the Arab Electronic Media Committee.
The Permanent Committee will also seek the best ways to implement the phased plan of the common Arab media strategy to combat terrorism, following the approval of the 33rd Ordinary Arab Summit in Bahrain on this strategy and the adoption of the recommendations from the First Forum for Influencers and Content Creators in the field of sustainable development.
The meeting will address taking targeted steps to complete the negotiation file with international media companies, continue efforts to promote environmental media culture, enhance the role of Arab women in media, and adopt the Arab Media Charter after enriching it with new provisions, in line with the Secretariat-General's initiative and the member states' proposals regarding integrating the electoral dimension in monitoring electoral entitlements at the media level.
