A skeleton of one of the giant Tyrannosaurus rex dinosaurs was sold today, Tuesday, for 5.5 million Swiss francs (6.13 million dollars) at a Swiss auction. The T. rex-293, named "Trinity," stands 3.9 meters tall and measures 11.6 meters long, consisting of 293 bones from three T. rexes discovered between 2008 and 2023 in the U.S. states of Montana and Wyoming. The winning bid was 4.8 million Swiss francs, lower than the estimated range of five to eight million Swiss francs, but the total price rose after adding the buyer's premium and the fees from the Koller auction house, reaching 5.5 million Swiss francs. Koller, Switzerland's largest auction house, stated, "This is the first time in Europe and the third time globally that a complete skeleton of a T. rex of exceptional quality has been offered at auction. More than half of the bones in the skeleton are original, while the rest are replicas made from plaster and epoxy resin." It is noteworthy that two other T. rex skeletons discovered in North America were sold: "Sue," which was sold for 8.4 million dollars in 1998, and "Stan," sold for 31 million dollars in 2020.
