UAE: Emergency and Crisis Management Authority Raises Preparedness Level for Expected Weather Conditions

The National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management has confirmed the elevation of the preparedness level and readiness of the national system to address the weather situation currently affecting the country, ensuring effective response and necessary support at both national and local levels.

Through a series of meetings for the Joint Assessment Team regarding weather and tropical conditions, chaired by the National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management and involving the Ministry of Interior, the National Center of Meteorology and relevant government entities, it was emphasized that business continuity plans should be activated. Continuous monitoring and assessment of the weather conditions and their impacts across all regions of the country are essential.

Based on the expected weather conditions, the Ministry of Interior, in coordination with the National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management, recommended activating remote learning for Thursday and Friday for all educational institutions. Decisions will be made by the relevant authorities at the federal level and local emergency, crisis, and disaster management team leaders within their jurisdiction, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and the UAE School Education Foundation, based on developments and impacts of the situation.

Additionally, it was recommended to activate remote working for all government institutions and the private sector for Thursday and Friday, except for essential roles that require physical attendance or those participating in response and recovery efforts from the weather system. Decisions will again be made by the relevant authorities at the federal level and local teams, according to the developments and impacts of the situation.

The Ministry of Interior, in coordination with the Emergency and Crisis Authority, has decided to close all roads leading to flood-prone areas, water pools, and dams during the weather situation. Citizens are urged to stay away from these areas and adhere to the instructions of the specialized field teams, avoiding mountainous, desert, and sea regions during this time to ensure their safety. It is crucial to follow all procedures announced by official bodies and obtain accurate information from government sources, while avoiding the spread of rumors and misinformation.

The National Center of Meteorology previously announced that the UAE will experience moderate to heavy rainfall in various regions starting Wednesday night through Thursday, accompanied by occasional lightning and thunder, with a possibility of small hail. For Friday and Saturday, cloud cover will decrease, with ongoing chances of light to moderate rains that could be heavy in some southern and eastern areas.
