Sources close to caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed via "Anbaa" electronic news that "the Wednesday session should be an opportunity to establish a national vision for addressing the issue of Syrian refugees. However, if the session turns into a bazaar for bidding and attacks on the Prime Minister, accusing him of bribery or similar insincere positions that we heard last week, this will not serve the national interest at all, but rather intensify political disputes and hinder any national stance in the future."
Mikati's circles anticipated "a supposed consensus to address the Syrian displacement file and to set a date for their return to their country," and praised "the initiative being undertaken by General Security in this regard," warning against "wasting an opportunity to realign the orientation of certain parties, especially the Free Patriotic Movement, who are expected to cooperate with the government and take the necessary measures to help resolve this issue."
They further observed that "the retreat of some Christian forces from their previous positions could shift the discourse from sectarian interests to a national one, and the Prime Minister had previously pointed out that these aids are a right for Lebanon and that the European Union had been providing them in past years before retracting due to some laws," according to "Anbaa" electronic news.
