Canadian Foreign Minister Tours Officials

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri met with Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly and her accompanying delegation in Ain Al-Tineh this morning. Minister Joly began her visit to Lebanon today, which will continue until tomorrow. She was welcomed at the airport by Canadian Ambassador Stéphanie McCullough, the Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Osama Khachab, and several embassy officials.

The Canadian Foreign Minister then proceeded to the Grand Serail to meet with Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Her visit is part of a regional tour that includes Turkey and Greece, aimed at working towards stabilizing conditions in Lebanon, where Canada has a large diaspora, as there is also a significant Lebanese community in Canada. The agenda of the visit includes meetings with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, and UNIFIL Commander General Aroldo Latharo, as well as a visit to one of the development projects funded by Canada in Beirut.
