Does Lebanon Exceed Prices of Neighboring Countries?

The head of the Syndicate of Food Importers, Hani Bahsali, pointed out that the World Bank's index for food inflation at 240 percent is misleading, as the reports mix the rise in global food prices with the decline in purchasing power, meaning an increase in inflation. Bahsali added in an interview with "Voice of Lebanon": "We do not exceed the prices of neighboring countries, and if we monitor our prices in dollars, we find they are cheaper. However, with the devaluation of the currency, which reduces the purchasing power of citizens, it is natural for numbers to rise." He also noted the necessity of analyzing the figures scientifically, indicating that while the situation is difficult, there is no need for exaggeration, and solutions must be addressed.
