Death Toll Among Pilgrims Exceeds 1,000

The number of deaths among pilgrims this year has surpassed 1,000, according to a tally compiled by the "France Presse" agency from authorities in Arab and Asian countries and diplomats. One diplomat noted that "most of the victims do not hold permits for the pilgrimage." An Arab diplomat informed "France Presse" that "58 additional deaths have been recorded among Egyptian pilgrims, raising the number of deceased Egyptians in the current season to at least 658, including 630 without pilgrimage permits."
