Fraud Scandal: Barcelona Player Sends "Twin" to Play Matches

Fraud Scandal: Barcelona Player Sends

Romanian media revealed on Monday that the biggest fraud in football has been discovered, as Dinamo Bucharest found out after three and a half months that the player they signed, Edgar Iei, a former Barcelona defender, was actually his twin brother, Edilino. Edgar Iei signed with Dinamo Bucharest last February, but it seems that the player participating in matches was his twin brother, Edilino.

The club is investigating whether the player, who was at Barcelona's academy and played with the club's second team from 2012 to 2015, had his twin brother play in five matches in his place. Reports indicated that the club became aware of the situation through a journalist who noted that Dinamo Bucharest was surprised when Edgar Iei did not speak English well and only communicated in Portuguese, despite having played in Spain, France, Turkey, and the Netherlands. The club then requested the player to show his driver's license, which he refused.

If the fraud is confirmed, the Romanian club risks losing the eight points it earned from the five matches that Edilino played instead of Edgar Iei. It is worth noting that Edgar Iei was born on May 1, 1994, and is an international defender who plays for Guinea-Bissau. He started his career at Sporting's academy in Portugal before signing with Barcelona "B" and made an appearance with the first team under Luis Enrique before leaving in 2015.
