Many people strive to eliminate sugar in order to improve their appearance and body shape, but it is unlikely that one can completely exclude glucose from their diet, as it is found in many foods. Russian nutrition expert Dr. Elena Solomatina indicates that "sugar enters the human body not only in the form of manufactured sweets but also in the form of carbohydrates, vegetables, or fruits."
She explains, "Even if we exclude refined sugar, cookies, candies, sweet pastries, or white bread from the diet, glucose will still enter the body through sauces, pasta, potatoes, whole grains, milk, or dressings." According to her, practically everything a person consumes contains sugar, except for meat and fats. However, a person cannot rely solely on these items. To maintain health, one must consume a balanced diet, meaning that it is not possible to completely eliminate sugar-containing foods.
She adds, "But it is possible to reduce sugar consumption, and afterwards, a person may feel better since many 'issues' arise due to elevated glucose levels in the blood. For instance, cardiovascular diseases—where sugar first damages the lining of the blood vessels, leading to glycation. Additionally, excess glucose binds with collagen, affecting joint health, eye health, and skin condition. It may also contribute to dementia."
The expert notes that all these issues stem from a high sugar level in the diet. According to her, everyone should gradually reduce sugar intake, especially those suffering from diabetes, insulin resistance, excess weight, obesity, and arteriosclerosis. The expert recommends acclimatizing children to a sugar-free diet from a young age, so that they do not develop a strong desire for sweets in adulthood, thereby reducing the likelihood of developing serious diseases.
