The European Union added six individuals and five entities to its sanctions list concerning the current situation in Syria on Monday. The individuals include an economic advisor to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, three prominent businessmen who support and benefit from the regime, and two connected to the Assad family.
Additionally, the European Council imposed sanctions on six entities involved in the war in Sudan, where the Sudanese Armed Forces have been fighting the Rapid Support Forces since April. The statement noted that "the six entities are responsible for supporting activities that undermine stability and political transition in Sudan."
The Council stated: "The assets of the listed companies are frozen. It is prohibited to provide funds or economic resources directly or indirectly to them or for their benefit." It emphasized that "the EU remains deeply concerned about the humanitarian situation in Sudan and reaffirms its steadfast support and solidarity with the Sudanese people."
Among the listed entities are two companies in the field of manufacturing weapons and vehicles for the Sudanese Armed Forces: "Industrial Defense Systems" and "SMT Engineering Industries," along with Zadina Global Investment Limited, which is controlled by the Rapid Support Forces, and three companies involved in procuring military equipment for the Rapid Support Forces: Al-Junaid Multi-Activities Limited, Tradive General Trading Limited, and GSK Advance Limited.
