Under Public Pressure, Kenyan President Withdraws Budget Proposal

Kenyan President William Ruto announced the withdrawal of the proposed budget for 2024-2025, which included tax increases, following protests that escalated into violent clashes resulting in fatalities and injuries. Ruto stated in a speech, "After reflecting and listening to the Kenyan people, I will not sign the 2024 Finance Bill and I announce its withdrawal." Earlier today, the Kenyan Medical Association reported that at least 23 people had been killed and 30 others injured during protests that occurred nationwide yesterday.
